Flux Box, '06

'FluxBox is a walk-through, room-sized “music box” that plays a single song. It will be created by a group of sound artists, musicians, and sculpture/installation artists gathered together by Flux Factory. Each artist will create a sculpture that contributes a musical element to the song—percussion, counterpoint, backup vocals, etc. These sound sculptures will be works in themselves, but they will also be part and parcel of the larger song. Like the Disneyland ride “It’s A Small World”, the objects in FluxBox present a world that is connected if simultaneously disjointed, which sings together, but in a harmonious cacophony.'

-Stefany Golberg, curator/director FluxFactory

My contribution was the interface that activated the instruments inside the fluxbox (a crank that translates kinetic energy into electricity that powers the fluxbox, as well as a pickle...). There has been a good deal of coverage of this work, some of it is linked below.
