rapport, '02
Rapport is comprised of pipes that have Blue L.E.D.s in them that brighten and dim, and speakers on them that emit very quiet sounds that come from speakjet ic’s. The piece responds to movement from another work of mine entitled colony. Rapport detects the movements of colony via emf sensors that are placed in locations around the perimeter of where colony is installed. The readings from the emf sensors are transmitted wirelessly to the components of Rapport, where they are processed – this processing introduces a delay between events within colony and the response of Rapport. Rapport visualizes and sonifies certain events that occur within colony. I have observed several occasions where visitors to installations where both works are installed have realized the connection between the two works and have responded by interacting with both pieces.
